The Arcadian Shores beach renourishment project is now underway.   This is a locally funded project undertaken by Horry County in partnership with the City of Myrtle Beach.  The contractor for the project, Great Lakes Dredge & Dock (GLDD), will be working between Singleton Swash and Apache Pier over the next several days.  During this time, small sections of beach and individual public beach accesses will need to be closed within the contractor’s active work area.  Unaffected sections of beach will remain open to the public.

After the contractor completes the Arcadian Shores project (south of Singleton Swash), they will return to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) federal renourishment project in southern Myrtle Beach (Reach 2) before finishing in Garden City and Surfside Beach (Reach 3) later in the summer.

"The contractor’s current plan is to complete both projects before the peak of hurricane season," said Andrew Markunas, Horry County Engineer.

As with all large-scale coastal construction projects, the contractor’s schedule remains subject to weather conditions and equipment availability.

Protecting our shores includes protecting sea turtles and migratory shorebirds.  Both projects are conducting daily monitoring for nests.  If nests are found in the construction area, operations will stop until protections can be implemented or safe relocation if necessary.
