On Wednesday morning, Horry County Parks and Recreation held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the future Michael Morris Graham Recreation Center in Aynor.

As the first recreation center in western Horry County, speakers highlighted the meaningful impact the facility will have on local youth and families.

“It’s the kids who are going to be influenced by this,” said Councilman Al Allen. “It’s going to be a place where our families and our community can come together—whether it’s for Friday night lights, Saturday games, or simply to watch young people play and dream.”

The $14.5 million facility will feature an indoor gym, running track, multipurpose rooms, and a fitness center. Outdoor amenities will include four pickleball courts, two basketball courts, lighted multi-use fields, a walking trail, and a paved parking lot.

“We want to offer volleyball, we want to offer wrestling, we want to offer those opportunities,” said Bradley Baker of the Aynor Area Athletic Association. “A lot goes on in this community, and this community sticks together.”

The new recreation center will be located at the Michael Morris Graham Park and Athletic Complex at 1253 Vereen Road in Aynor.
