A new space designed to bring children and families of all abilities together is now open at the Carolina Forest Recreation Center.
On Thursday afternoon, Horry County Parks and Recreation held a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the new inclusive playground, a National Demonstration Site created to encourage children of all abilities to explore, play, interact and connect.
The playground features smooth, accessible pathways, adaptive swings and sensory rich elements designed to provide meaningful play experiences for children with a wide range of abilities. Every aspect of the playground was thoughtfully planned with inclusion and accessibility in mind.
“We were intentional with the design, including features such as transfer stations for mobility users and expression swings so that users and caregivers can experience and celebrate the joy of play together,” said Parks and Recreation Director Ray Dunham.
