Community Risk Reduction

Horry County Fire Rescue is committed to providing education programs to the citizens, businesses, and visitors of our community, with a common goal of eliminating unintentional property loss, injuries and deaths across Horry County. Horry County Fire Rescue is considered an “All-Hazards Emergency Service Organization” and responds to fires, emergency medical service incidents, vehicle crashes, hazardous materials incidents, technical rescue situations, and water-related emergencies across our entire community.

To ensure our community outreach and public education programs encompasses these vast amount of incident types, the department has embraced the concept of Community Risk Reduction. The primary goal of our outreach programs will focus on citizen education, through eliminating the causes and circumstances responsible for the injuries and deaths we respond to each year.

Our educational programming development and delivery will take a new approach, as we will continue to deliver the fire safety programs our community has come to expect, while adding several new focus areas, targeting the multiple causes of unintentional injuries and deaths we see each year. This new approach will emphasize the importance of reducing the known risks to create a safe, healthy, and resilient community to live, work, and raise a family.
