Crews are nearing completion on another critical drainage project made possible through funding from the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA).

Located along Kayla Circle in the Longs area, this project is strengthening the drainage system that serves roughly 750 acres flowing into the nearby Big Cedar Branch tributary. The existing system couldn’t keep pace with stormwater demand, leading to flooding in surrounding neighborhoods.

This is second of five major drainage projects funded by a nearly $5.5M RIA grant awarded to Horry County in 2023.

The first project, completed in May 2024, addressed flooding concerns along Azalea Lakes Boulevard near Highway 17.

Upcoming RIA-funded projects include:

- 57th Place subdivision, Longs

- Hemingway Chapel Road, Conway area

- Highway 9, Little River

Horry County is grateful for RIA’s support in delivering these vital infrastructure improvements to protect our communities.
