The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR), in coordination with the South Carolina Forestry Commission, intends to perform controlled burns in the vicinity of International Drive, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 24, and potentially through the week.
Prescribed burns are set intentionally for the purpose of forest management and preventing uncontrolled forest fires. The controlled burn will reduce the accumulation of flammable fuels on the forest floor under SCDNR’s planned land management program.
This controlled burn will require a temporary road closure of International Drive, from Three R Drive to Redwolf Trail, for all traffic. Businesses near Redwolf Trail will not be impacted by the closure.
The closure is expected to go into effect at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24, with potential for the same February 25-26. The roadway will be reopened if or as smoke conditions allow. This schedule is based upon the most current weather forecast and is subject to change. Smoke is expected to be visible for an extended duration.
Access to the Horry County Solid Waste Recycling Facility will remain open from the Highway 90 side up to Three R Drive.
Please plan your travel accordingly. Alternate routes include highways 22 and 501.
