Located on the front lawn of the Horry County Museum, the exhibit features replicas of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Civil Rights Amendments.

It is designed to mirror the display of the authentic documents found at the National Archives in Washington, DC.

Foundation Forward Inc. donates these settings to communities to serve as public educational spaces that provide easy access to the United States’ founding documents.

Horry County’s display is the 75th of its kind in the United States and just the third in the state of South Carolina.

“We just hope and pray that this exhibit reminds us of the foundation for which this country was formed and hopefully inspire us to adopt and take that same sacred honor that our forefathers did and use that today in our society,” said Horry County Administrator Barry Spivey.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the display outside of the Horry County Museum located at 805 N Main Street in Conway. The exhibit is equipped with lighting to allow for viewing in the evening hours and when the Horry County Museum is closed.

“This is the challenge, you bring your child, your grandchild, niece, nephew or other family member down here to your Charters of Freedom,” said Vance Patterson, founder of Foundation Forward, Inc. “Tell them about their freedoms and rights and how those freedoms and rights give them an advantage over the rest of the world to pursue their passions, to chase their dreams, to accomplish their goals and get out of life what they want to get out of life.”

The Charters of Freedom also feature a time capsule set to be opened in 2087, marking the 300th anniversary of the United States Constitution. It will contain photos from the display’s construction and a list of attendees from the dedication ceremony.
