$56M in Federal Funds for Storm Risk Management
USACE Release 3.2.23The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District, has been granted $56 million to address extensive beach and dune erosion along the Grand Strand--including parts of unincorporated Horry County--that were impacted by Hurricane Ian.
Planning is already underway to initiate the federal beach renourishment project.
The Garden City and Surfside Beach area is estimated to receive 500,000 cubic yards of sand. Myrtle Beach is estimated to receive 650,000 cubic yards of sand. North Myrtle Beach is estimated to receive 350,000 cubic yards of sand.
