General Job Description
Under limited supervision, assists in the daily operation of the Horry County Animal Shelter system through offering a fit environment for the collection and holding of animals. Performs daily task to maintain the quality standards of the shelter by offering a clean, safe and healthy center for animals.
- Duties for this Position

- Provides a safe and healthy environment for shelter animals by performing duties including but not limited to feeding and caring for animals held in Animal Shelter care; preparing animals for testing; administering injections to animals as appropriate; repeating basic physical examination as necessary; ensuring care of sick, injured and orphaned animals; maintaining records on individual animals brought to shelter; preparing and submitting reports and logs as necessary; updating computer databases; etc.
- Works with Veterinarian to ensure medical treatment is properly provided.
- Cleans and maintains the animal shelter and its kennels; maintains chemical sprays and other equipment.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies.
- Assists the public in adoption procedures or in claiming lost pets
- Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
- Assists the surgery team with prepping animals for surgery.
- Works weekends and on-call shifts during the week.
- Performs euthanasia procedures and disposes of animal carcass according to regulations.
- Performs related duties as assigned
- Position Minimum Requirements

- Requires a high school diploma
- A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years experience working in veterinary science field.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, have reliable transportation and must be able to pass required pre-employment physical and background check.
- Must be computer literate and have experience with Microsoft Office programs.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and lift up to 40 lbs.
