General Job Description

Horry County Government is seeking a highly motivated, self-starting Cloud & Identity Security Analyst to join the Security Operations Center (SOC) within the IT/GIS department. This role offers a rare opportunity for a technically capable early- to mid-career cybersecurity professional to gain deep experience in cloud security, identity governance, and data protection—working side by side with seasoned leadership and modern tools. While this role focuses on cloud and identity security, the selected candidate will also contribute to data security projects as we expand our enterprise protection strategies. The right individual will bring a strong technical foundation, a growth mindset, and a desire to develop into a future cybersecurity leader. This position is designed to grow with the right person—and may evolve into a senior or deputy CISO-level path over time.

Duties for this Position
  • Cloud & Identity Security Operations: Support administration and security configuration of Microsoft 365, Entra ID (Azure AD), Defender, Purview, Sentinel, Splunk, and related platforms. Assist with Conditional Access policy design, role-based access control, and privileged access management. Monitor and improve Secure Score posture across Microsoft cloud services.
  • User Identity Lifecycle Management: Automating provisioning and deprovisioning processes using modern identity governance tools. Collaborate with Security Operations Administrators to optimize secure onboarding and offboarding.
  • Threat Detection & Incident Response Support: Participate in cloud and identity-based threat detection and response using tools like Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, Defender, and Purview. Contribute to the development of incident response playbooks.
  • Data Security Project Support: Support ongoing projects involving data classification, encryption, and Data Loss Prevention (DLP). Help monitor for DLP policy violations and assist in forensic and compliance-related investigations.
  • Team Collaboration & Training: Engage in security training, documentation, and cross-functional initiatives within the SOC. Promote best practices for secure identity and data management.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and ability.
  • 1–3 years of experience in IT security, cloud administration, identity management, or Microsoft 365 support.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft cloud technologies including Entra (Azure AD), Office 365 Security, Conditional Access, Defender, and Purview.
  • Preferred Qualifications: • Familiarity with Microsoft cloud security tools (e.g., Defender, Entra, Sentinel, Purview) or equivalent platforms. • Understanding of Zero Trust architecture and data security fundamentals. • Entry-level certifications such as Security+, Microsoft SC-900, or AZ-500, or demonstrable equivalent knowledge. • Experience supporting cybersecurity projects in a SOC, enterprise IT team, or internship/contract capacity.
