General Job Description

Horry County Government is seeking a knowledgeable and driven Cisco Network Administrator to join our Network Infrastructure team. This position is responsible for the implementation, maintenance, security, and support of the county’s high-speed computer and voice network. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Cisco technologies and be able to design, deploy, troubleshoot, and enhance network systems while contributing to long-term planning and enterprise security.

Duties for this Position
  • Configure, install, and maintain Cisco network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless controllers.
  • Monitor, analyze, and improve the performance and availability of wired and wireless network infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues, providing upper-level support as needed.
  • Plan and execute network system installations, upgrades, and patches.
  • Analyze bandwidth and capacity needs, ensuring scalability and efficiency.
  • Conduct disaster recovery testing and implement network security policies and guidelines.
  • Utilize and manage enterprise monitoring tools such as Cisco Prime, SolarWinds, Wireshark, MRTG, and NMAP.
  • Support and manage network services such as firewalls, IPS/IDS, DNS, DHCP, TACACS+, VPN, NAC, and web security.

  • Investigate security logs and alerts to support post-incident analysis and threat mitigation.
  • Participate in the development and enforcement of cybersecurity procedures and policies.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to coordinate network solutions and improvements.
  • Stay up to date with rapidly evolving network technologies and best practices.
  • Perform related duties and projects as assigned.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or a related field; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and ability.
  • At least 5 years of experience in enterprise-level network administration, including Cisco environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of Cisco IOS and hands-on configuration of routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Advanced knowledge of networking protocols including EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, GRE, and technologies such as NX-OS.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Excellent analytical, customer service, and communication skills.
  • Must pass a background check prior to employment.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Certifications: CCNP, CCDP, CCNP Wireless, CCSP, or equivalent. Experience with Cisco Unified Wireless technologies (802.11a/b/g/n, LWAPP, CAPWAP, WLCs, APs). Experience with Cisco enterprise platforms such as Nexus, Catalyst 6500/4500, ASA, IPS, and AnyConnect. Background in security monitoring and event analysis.
