General Job Description

The Airport Controls Specialist is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and securing the Airport’s physical access control systems, video surveillance systems, and building operational control systems (including HVAC, lighting, and other OT infrastructure). This position supports system continuity, cybersecurity compliance, and safe operations across airport facilities. Duties span preventive maintenance, system upgrades, troubleshooting, incident response, and operational support for mission-critical systems. The position reports to the Airport Director of IT and requires mandatory on-call availability, including weekends and holidays, due to the 24/7 nature of airport operations.

Duties for this Position
  • Maintain safe operation of all access control, video surveillance, and building control systems.
  • Perform patching and updates to all systems on a regular schedule.
  • Troubleshoot supervisory and trouble alarms; isolate and remap endpoints (e.g., strobes, smoke heads, pull stations).
  • Document malfunctions and resolution steps thoroughly for historical tracking.
  • Train end-users on system and software operation.
  • Proactively monitor systems for issues and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Perform periodic cleaning and maintenance of devices and network infrastructure.
  • Maintain compliance with TSA, FAA, and related cybersecurity requirements.
  • Implement approved system changes and upgrades in a timely manner.
  • Install cabling, terminations, and infrastructure to support expansions or changes.
  • Maintain and audit inventory of system assets and consumables.
  • Troubleshoot and repair lighting programming and HVAC system controls.
  • Support future OT/controls system programming and expansion initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Proficient in troubleshooting low-voltage (security) and mid-voltage (building controls) systems.
  • Skilled in installing and maintaining network infrastructure, including IP addressing, switching, and data distribution.
  • Solid understanding of networking technology and cybersecurity principles for OT systems.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to work at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Strong skills in computers, operating systems, and application support.
  • Effective record-keeping and documentation practices.
  • Capable of working independently on complex projects with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for coordination with contractors, tenants, and coworkers.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
  • Willing to travel for necessary training or certifications.
