General Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY: Is responsible for functioning as the initial contact with customers in both person and by phone at the various recreation locations. Answers the telephone; provides accurate information to callers and/or forwards calls to appropriate staff person. Performs a variety of customer service duties to ensure a pleasant experience at the facility as a representative of the Horry County Parks and Recreation Department. Under the general supervision of the District Supervisor, must be physically and mentally capable of best meeting the varying needs of customers. The Recreation Leader develops relationships with community groups and individuals to foster strong positive customer feedback. Work involves the exercise of initiative, sound judgment, and discretion in the performance of duties. The Recreation Leader ensures the efficient daily operation of the front desk within the County Facility and ensures all work is conducted according to County Policy, codes and standards of quality. The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Incumbents may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

Duties for this Position
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Oversees, coordinates, and assists with the activities of all rentals and programs at the recreation facility. • Assures that the recreation facility is opened or closed and secured each day at the appropriate times. • Utilizes CivicRec software to register customers and process transactions • Processes transactions, handles credit card and cash payments • Ensures proper operation and maintenance of the facility and equipment inside and makes sure that the Center is in compliance with safety policies and procedures. • With assistance of other building staff, coordinates programs and activities with other departmental divisions, County agencies, community organizations and the general public. • Assists with set up, clean up, and storage for programs, including the performance of light custodial duties such trash pick-up, sweep floor, wipe counters off etc. • Initiates and supervises safety measures for all activities. • Receives and receipts reservation fees for programs. • Provide friendly, timely and responsive customer service. • Performs general clerical duties as needed, including typing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, etc. • Receives reviews, prepares and/or submits various records and report including accident reports. • Monitors and enforces policies regarding the use of the public building and park lot. • Occupancy rate is enforced during all times including rentals. • Maintains consistent record of building use and updates supervisor as needed. • May be asked to assist with programs operating in facility including games, crafts, special events, childcare programs, athletic programs, community events, etc. • All other duties assigned related to the job.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES: • Practices continuous learning through individual study, classroom training, seminars and conferences. • Knowledge of preparing and assisting with recreational programs, athletic activities, clerical skills, and coordinating of recreational facilities preferred. • Ability to quickly adapt and learn computer programs including the use of online software, word processing, financial and registration software • Demonstrated customer service and conflict resolution skills • Critical thinking skills ability to problem solve in difficult situations • Desire to contribute to a team environment • Ability to follow directions and take on responsibilities without being tasked QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent. Associate Degree preferred. 1 year of general office/clerical experience and/or 3+ years of experience in the Parks and Recreation or building operations management field or any equivalent combination of education and experience providing the required skills, knowledge and abilities. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: A South Carolina or North Carolina Driver’s license. Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and background check.
