General Job Description

Under occasional supervision, researches, develops and conducts training programs for career and volunteer members of the Horry County Fire/Rescue Department.

Duties for this Position
  • Conducts training that is compliant with OSHA and DHEC requirements
  • Maintains medical training records and ensures department training hours and objectives are achieved
  • May be asked to maintain department’s medical Continuing Education Program (CEP), ensuring the Continuing Education Program is compliant with DHEC requirements
  • Responds to emergencies as needed
  • May be asked to research, develop, implement and enforce protocols, standard operating guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Performs other related duties as required
  • May be asked to provide training or other duties in a varying schedule that is most advantageous to the department’s staff, both career and volunteer
  • Reports to the Assistant Chief of EMS Operations
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Vocational/technical school training in EMS or related field, supplemented by five to seven years of progressive experience and training in fire service and EMS programs; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
  • Associate's Degree - Preferred
  • Must be a South Carolina/National Registry Paramedic
  • Firefighter II Certification (IFSAC or Pro-Board)
  • Must currently possess or obtain within 6 months - DHEC CEP Instructor
  • Must currently possess or obtain within 6 months - DHEC EMT Basic Instructor
  • Must possess AHA CPR Instructor credentials
  • Experience as a supervisor or company officer preferred
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license
  • Must possess a minimum of four instructor credentials in the following disciplines:
  • AHA – Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • AHA – Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • AHA – Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization
  • NAEMT – Advanced Medical Life Support
  • NAEMT – Emergency Pediatric Care
  • NAEMT – Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support
  • American Academy of Pediatrics – Pediatric Education for Pre-hospital Providers International Trauma Life Support
  • Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and background check
