General Job Description
Under occasional supervision, researches, develops and conducts training programs for career and volunteer members of the Horry County Fire/Rescue Department.
- Duties for this Position

- Conducts training that is compliant with OSHA and DHEC requirements
- Maintains medical training records and ensures department training hours and objectives are achieved
- May be asked to maintain department’s medical Continuing Education Program (CEP), ensuring the Continuing Education Program is compliant with DHEC requirements
- Responds to emergencies as needed
- May be asked to research, develop, implement and enforce protocols, standard operating guidelines, policies and procedures
- Performs other related duties as required
- May be asked to provide training or other duties in a varying schedule that is most advantageous to the department’s staff, both career and volunteer
- Reports to the Assistant Chief of EMS Operations
- Position Minimum Requirements

- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
- Vocational/technical school training in EMS or related field, supplemented by five to seven years of progressive experience and training in fire service and EMS programs; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
- Associate's Degree - Preferred
- Must be a South Carolina/National Registry Paramedic
- Firefighter II Certification (IFSAC or Pro-Board)
- Must currently possess or obtain within 6 months - DHEC CEP Instructor
- Must currently possess or obtain within 6 months - DHEC EMT Basic Instructor
- Must possess AHA CPR Instructor credentials
- Experience as a supervisor or company officer preferred
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license
- Must possess a minimum of four instructor credentials in the following disciplines:
- AHA – Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- AHA – Pediatric Advanced Life Support
- AHA – Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization
- NAEMT – Advanced Medical Life Support
- NAEMT – Emergency Pediatric Care
- NAEMT – Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support
- American Academy of Pediatrics – Pediatric Education for Pre-hospital Providers International Trauma Life Support
- Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and background check
