General Job Description

Under supervision of the Principal Planner, the Associate Planner is responsible for a variety of development and long-range planning activities. The associate planner should possess in-depth knowledge within one or more planning specialties such as economic development, comprehensive planning, transportation planning or environmental planning.

Duties for this Position
  • • Interprets and applies applicable state, county and local codes, ordinances and regulations. • Assists with updates and maintenance of Comprehensive Plan and land development regulations. • Conducts extensive research in specific or general project areas. • Writes and presents formal and technical reports, working papers, and correspondence. • Develops long range plans for communities with common developmental issues. • Develops strategies to promote economic and community development or efficient land use consistent with community goals. • Evaluates adequacy of community facilities in meeting current and projected needs. • Recommends priorities, schedules, and funding sources to implement public improvement plans. • Writes, or assists in writing, a variety of ordinances and regulations relating to development controls. • Attends evening and weekend meetings.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Qualified candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree and experience or Master’s degree in urban and regional planning or a related field, such as Business Administration, Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Science, Landscape Architecture, Natural Resource Management, Parks and Recreation, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Candidates must be able to pass required pre-employment physical and background check.
