General Job Description

Responsible for receiving, processing and cataloging materials for addition to the Library’s collection.

Duties for this Position
  • Physically unpacks shipments, processes and receives new materials using the library automation system.
  • Creates new cataloging and bibliographic records for items that require original records in accordance with MARC standards.
  • Performs copy cataloging for items using bibliographic records downloaded from OCLC.
  • Assigns Dewey Decimal Classification and LC Subject Headings for library materials of all types using WebDewey, Library of Congress data service, iPage, and various other online resources.
  • Downloads MARC records from OCLC.
  • Ability to recreate media cover art using Canva.
  • Ability to create new packaging for various library collections.
  • Participates in maintaining internal documentation for library specific cataloging processes for cross-training catalogers.
  • Maintains statistical records and prepares reports and correspondence as required.
  • Participates in the maintenance and operation of the library’s automation system to ensure that library users have optimal access to the collection.
  • Operates and maintains the automated media buffing equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as needed.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Associate degree and three to five years of library experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must be able to work independently and be self-directed.
  • Ability to adapt to changing and evolving library procedures, priorities and information technologies.
  • Excellent computer and internet skills (library software, OCLC, LCSH, MARC, Microsoft Office, and Canva skills preferred)
  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and office equipment.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 45 pounds, ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
  • Must be able to pass required pre-employment physical and background check.
  • Current valid driver’s license.
