General Job Description

Under occasional supervision, maintains accurate and current computer records of real property ownership in Horry County through daily review, interpretation and processing of all recorded deeds and other legal documents of conveyances. Maintains owner address changes as needed. Assists GIS Mapping Technicians and other Assessor's Office staff with owner record information and conveyances. Assists the public and other agencies with questions concerning real property in Horry County.

Duties for this Position
  • Assist the general public and/or county employees in person, by phone, mail and electronic mail answering inquiries related to department services and records; explains policies, mandated state laws, and procedures pertaining to conveyance/transfer of real property.
  • Review records, cadastral maps, and legal documents such as deeds, marriage certificates, death certificates, legal proceedings, and court order judgements pertaining to real property ownership.
  • Performs searches of records to locate documents and maps.
  • Maintain and update owner records of Real Estate parcels for taxing purposes. This includes owner address changes notified by owner, other agency, NCOA, and Treasure's Office.

Position Minimum Requirements
  • Preferred Associate's Degree in computer science and/or diploma course in real estate law, paralegal or other relevant field supplemented by one or two years of experience in data processing or real estate title research; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Applicants must have extensive knowledge with computers and Microsoft Office and other software packages.
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in a team setting.
  • Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and background check.
