General Job Description

Under general supervision, performs a variety of complex administrative and clerical duties, as well as evidence handling and processing in order to ensure effective and efficient office operations. This position is in the Property and Evidence section of the Police Department.

Duties for this Position
  • Maintains the custody of evidence/property to include all required documentation for cases.
  • Provides customer service in person as well as by phone, both internal and external.
  • Works with members of the police department to ensure accuracy/completeness of processing of evidence and validates all related documentation.
  • Works with outside agencies for transfer and analysis of evidence.
  • Facilitates discovery for evidence reviews with the Solicitor’s Office as well as other officers of the court.
  • Reviews case dispositions to ensure accuracy of disposal of evidence/property.
  • Occasionally walk short distances to warehouse facility and lift up to 25 lbs. above head level.
  • Required appearances in court for evidence related testimony.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Associate degree in a related field (i.e. Criminal Justice, Secretarial Science, or equivalent) is preferred
  • At least one year of clerical/general office experience is preferred
  • Experience in customer service with ability to overcome indifference is preferred
  • Must have experience with computer and office software packages
  • Must pass pre-employment polygraph exam
  • Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and extensive background check.
