General Job Description

Under general supervision, is responsible for the transportation and supervision of Summer Camp Children’s Programs. Responsibilities include: transporting children to activities from the camp sites, and assisting in overseeing camp activities for children ages 5-12 years old. Assists with games, special events, and programs under the countywide Recreation Department Program. Ensures playing surfaces are clear and safe and programs are prepared for the activity. Administers general First Aid. Enforces and interprets rules and regulations in designated recreation districts. Provides assistance if necessary. Work involves the exercise of initiative, sound judgment, and discretion in the performance of duties. The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Incumbents may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

Duties for this Position
  • Must be a current Horry County Schools Bus Driver
  • Must have demonstrated high patience and experience with large groups of children
  • Provides transportation to and from field trip locations throughout the summer, spring break, and off-school dates as needed and available.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to driving large passenger vehicles.
  • Able to use independent judgment and discretion in supervising children including handling of emergency situations, determining and deciding upon procedures to implemented, setting priorities, maintaining standards, and resolving problems.
  • Knowledgeable of the required records, charts, documents, and related information required by the County and is able to maintain proper data and information as required.
  • Has the ability to make sound, educated decisions. Has the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency.
  • High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent. Current CDL Class-C South Carolina Driver’s License. A South Carolina or North Carolina Driver’s license. Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and background check.
