General Job Description

Under occasional supervision, performs a variety of complex administrative and clerical duties in order to ensure effective and efficient office operation. Provides a high level of customer service to the Register of Deeds clients via the telephone, internet, or in person. Provides assistance to supervisors, co-workers, and the general public as required. Performs other job-related duties as required. Position will primarily involve data entry, but employee will be cross trained in other limited areas and responsibilities of the Register of Deeds.

Duties for this Position
  • Accurately index and verify recorded documents to effectively support search and retrieval.
  • Assist with customer phone calls and assist with customers as needed.
  • Record documents electronically according to SC State Statutes.
  • Redact personal identifying information from recorded documents.
  • Provide assistance to supervisors, co-workers and the general public as required.
  • Be a flexible team player ready to work in queues as needed.
  • Perform other job duties as required.
  • Will be crossed trained in limited areas and responsibilities of the ROD.
  • Reports to the Index/Verify Team supervisor.
  • Meet team/departmental performance standards.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Associate degree in secretarial science or equivalent, and one (1) year general office/clerical experience or high school diploma and three (3) years of clerical/general office experience, or any equivalent combination of training, experience, knowledge and abilities.
  • Applicants should have extensive knowledge with computer and office software packages.
  • Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and background check.
  • Preferred candidates should be able to accurately type 60 – 75 words per minute, great attention to detail, adaptive to workplace change, whether process updates or work environment, and the ability to work independently as well in a team environment.
