General Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, operates mosquito control spraying and fogging equipment, helps with larvaciding application, trapping mosquitoes and collections. Job will involve working with pesticides. Will assist with inspections and any other duties as assigned.

Duties for this Position
  • Knowledge of pesticide handling is preferred.
  • Ability to operate small engines and perform maintenance.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to read and write.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • High School education or GED.
  • Experience in equipment operations or related field, or any equivalent combination.
  • Experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must possess a valid SC driver’s license.
  • Must pass required pre-employment physical and background check.
  • Must be able to perform manual labor in lifting and handling necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Physical Requirements: Must have physical ability to operate variety of machines and equipment including general office equipment, facsimile machines, vehicle, telephone, etc. Must be capable of exerting up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount for force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve extended periods of walking or standing on occasional basis.
  • Interpersonal Communication Skills: Must have the ability to speak clearly and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes ability to convey information to general public and co-workers or assistants, and ability to understand and receive assignments and/or directions from supervisor. Develops and shares knowledge with managers, supervisors and staff effectively. Tactfully and effectively handles requests, suggestions and complaints.
  • Language Ability: Requires excellent ability to communicate in the English language, both written and verbal. Requires ability to speak with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech.
  • Intelligence: Requires ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Must have the ability to learn and understand relatively complex principles and techniques; and to make independent judgments in absence of supervision. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret information received from various sources, and to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency.
  • Verbal Aptitude: Requires ability to record and deliver information, to understand and explain procedures, and to follow and give verbal and written instructions. Must be capable of effective and efficient communication and have the ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and educational levels.
  • Numerical Aptitude: Requires ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and to utilize mathematical formulas with ease to determine percentages and decimals, and to determine time.
  • Motor Coordination: Requires hand/eye coordination to operate office and voting machinery and motor vehicles.
  • Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, keyboards, office equipment, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, etc. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • Interpersonal Temperament: Requires ability to relate effectively, courteously and professionally with people. Able to perform duties professionally despite interruptions and distractions. Must have ability to utilize independent judgment in variety of scenarios, and to make sound, educated decisions. Presentation and emphasis should be upon the importance of maintenance of positive image within the County. Ability to interact and serve diverse population with empathy and enthusiasm essential. Demonstrates consideration of suggestions and complaints and responds appropriately. Exhibits enthusiasm and guidance toward the achievement of County and Department goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge Requirement: Requires excellent computer capability and proficiency in office skills. Also ability to understand and utilize knowledge of procedures, policies, protocols and methods used in finance as they pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of this position.
